About Us

It gives me a tremendous honor and pleasure to welcome you to this newly established association. Our association, the Hong Kong Association of Endocrine Surgeons (HKAES), has had a very modest beginning with literally a handful of interested surgeons wanting to establish an independent, non-profit organization for this wonderful surgical subspecialty. Through the perseverance and hard work of all 15 council members, our association was eventually established in 2018. 

Our main goal as an association is to advance surgery of the thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, endocrine pancreas, carcinoids and other endocrine tumors. However, it is worth highlighting the fact that HKAES is never intended to be an association for the “super-specialists”. Instead, it is intended to cater not only the needs of qualified endocrine surgeons but also the needs of general surgeons, head and neck surgeons as well as otorhinolaryngologists who are mostly engaged in their own specialist practice but still have a particular passion in thyroid and parathyroid surgeries. Throughout the year, our association shall organize regular educational activities and it is hoped that these activities will raise the overall standard of medical care across the territory in both the public and private sectors. 

 Our major goal is to advance the knowledge and skills in surgery of the thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, endocrine pancreas, carcinoids and other endocrine tumors. In addition, HKAES plans to provide a voice for endocrine surgery in Hong Kong, links to other societies in endocrinology, Head and Neck surgery, Otorhinolaryngology, Radiation / medical oncology...etc., links to regional and international endocrine surgery groups as well as support for endocrine surgery training.
